Managing Editors have a range of responsibilities, negotiated directly with the Editor-in-Chief, that may include:
- Replacing non-responsive or unsuitable reviewers where needed
- Making a recommendation to the Editor-in-Chief on a specific manuscript
- Promote the journal within the academic community
- Assist in the identification of suitable peer-reviewers
- Manage submissions within a specific subject area or section
- Help identify emerging topics of interest for special issues
- Suggest and encourage contributing authors
